Foreign Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola says the inaugural Pacific Islands Development Forum has been a successful meeting.
Ratu Inoke told Radio New Zealand International that 14 of the 23 Pacific Islands Countries and Territories that were invited attended the meeting in Nadi.
He said more than 20 development partner countries including Australia and New Zealand were represented as well.
Ratu Inoke said it was the first time that three key players – government, private sector and the NGOs – sat together at a meeting and talked about the issues on climate change and sustainable development.
He also said the PIDF has not been set up to compete with any existing regional organisation.
He added that the PIDF and the Pacific Islands Forum could complement each other.
