Fiji dominates visitor arrivals in South Pacific

February 3, 2015 12:56 am

Fiji’s dominance in the visitor market share remains high in spite of the September elections.

There was a 4.6 per cent increase in visitor arrivals in the third quarter of 2014.

The increase represented 8,997 more visitors.

This was stated in the South Pacific Tourism Organization’s quarterly tourism review for the third quarter of 2014.

Chief Executive Officer Ilisoni Vuidreketi says the review is timely because correct data must be made available to all stakeholders for planning purposes for this year.

Vuidreketi says this review is a good gauge of how South Pacific nations faired in tourism at the end of 2014.

He says this is also a useful tool for further analysis into growth and development in the region.

According to the report , Australian tourists continue to dominate the visitor arrivals into the South Pacific.

A total of 160,048 Australian tourists visited the region in the 3rd quarter, with Fiji the main beneficiary taking 63 percent of the market share.
