The re-opening of the Navo Tramline Bridge is a relief to many sugarcane farmers who are preparing for the crushing season.
Permanent Secretary for Sugar – Mansa Vaniqi says many questions were asked on the restoration of the Bridge after it got washed away.
Vaniqi says the government made it a priority to repair the bridge as transportation cost is a challenge for FSC and the farmers.
“The Navo Rail Bridge provides a vital link for the rail growers in both Nadi and Sigatoka district of approximately – one hundred and six thousand, one hundred and seventy tonnes cane. That is why the government and FSC have gone out of their way to have this rail bridge rehabilitation project attended expediently to ensure that the supply of cane to the Lautoka Mill is least affected when crush starts next week.”
$2.3m has been spent to repair the Navo Bridge.
