The Consumer watchdog is hoping that the Commerce Commission’s review of the motor vehicle spare parts market will put the spotlight on dealers and their business practises.

In welcoming the review – Consumer Council CEO Premila Kumar says for too long consumers have suffered and given the run around by spare part dealers.

The Council received 76 complaints on spare parts in 2010; 51 complaints in 2011 and 17 complaints in the last 5 months.

Kumar says while the numbers may look small, the monetary amount involved runs in thousands of hard-earned consumer dollars.
