The turtle population in the Mamanuca group is healthy.
According to the Mamanuca Environment Society (MES) – this is amazing given that the turtle is a local delicacy.
MES Project Officer Betani Salusalu says people in the local communities were educated on turtle harvesting, nesting and the need for conservation.
“As of today – the turtle numbers have increased dramatically. Turtles are everywhere and that’s amazing.”
Yesterday – the MES launched their ‘Mamanuca Sea Turtle Conservation Project’- by releasing three turtles out to the open sea.
