Recent development in mining and forestry, commencement of the crushing season and the peak tourism season is expected to increase economic activity.

In its latest economic review the Reserve Bank of Fiji forecasts the expansion of the economy by 2.7 percent.

Sectoral performances in the first half of the year were positive, despite the early setback of two damaging floods in January and late March.

However, Governor Barry Whiteside says external environment is expected to remain fragile and continue to pose downside risks to Fiji growth prospects.
