The Northern Development Programme is advancing in leaps and bounds.

According to Director, Waisele Tuidama – the programme has set up 1,530 projects and injected $9.2 million in four years.

The NDP is part of the government’s Look North Policy.

The turnover from those projects is over $12 million.

Tuidama told FBC News that 86 per cent of the projects are up and running while 14 per cent are still weak and need support.

He says the projects include fishing, poultry farming, cattle, sheep and goat rearing, and growing sugar cane, dalo, rice and yaqona.

Tuidama says fishing is lucrative in the North and they have found a market in America.

The Programme has touched the lives of thousands of Northerners – dropping its poverty figures from 57 per cent in 2003 to 51 percent in 2009.
