The Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama says using government vehicles after hours is a waste of tax payer’s money.
Although there has been a drop in the number of government vehicles impounded, Bainimarama says all departments should work at improving their accountabilities.
“All government departments’ need to be constantly reminded that this is taxpayer’s money and we will not stand for any abuse.”
“As I have said many times, we need to modernise government and put a stop to the abuse of government resources,” said Bainimarama.
He said, “we have put in place tougher checks and balances with regards to abuse of government vehicles.”
“The Permanent Secretaries should authorise for any run after hours.”
“This is our effort to stop the abuse of state resources, going about improved accountabilities and to contain costs,” he said.
Land Force Commander Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga had reiterated that the operation with Police will continue until the Prime Minister is satisfied with the way resources are managed.
