Fiji’s Ambassador to the UK – Solo Mara is liaising closely with the British Ministry of Defence on the retention of Fijian soldiers who will be affected by the second tranche of redundancy.

From Last September – members of the British Army have been made redundant in a move by the government to reduce the size of its armed forces.

250 Fijians are listed for redundancy – to be between now until 2014.

The cuts are expected to be realized in regiments having a high number of Commonwealth soldiers.

The first batch of redundancy will be realized in January 2013.

Mara is now working with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the negotiation with UK Immigration Authorities on the regularization of visas of our nationals affected by the redundancy and who opt to settle in the UK.
