The damaged Lovonivonu Jetty
Report by: Elenoa Turagaiviu
The two main port of entries by sea to Taveuni, the Lovonivonu Jetty and Salia Jetty have been badly damaged.
Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea says the two jetties are now inaccessible and will not be used for the next few weeks.
Vocea says only fibre glass boats are currently being used for transportation to and from Tevuni.
The Divisional Emergency Operation Centre is Labasa has requested the National Emergency Operations Center in Suva for the provision of a barge for the transportation of supplies especially food to the island.
Vocea says if the island is totally cut off from shipping services, they will surely run out of food.
A bridge in Taveuni South has cut off the area from the rest of the island.
Fibre glass boats are currently being used to access the other parts of the island as well as take water to the area.
