Fiji Sugar Corporation Executive Chair Abdul Khan says this year is going to be a difficult one for everyone in the industry.
The Sugar Industry has suffered around one hundred and twenty million dollars in losses due to Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston last month.
Khan says farmers in Rakiraki, Tavua and parts of Ba have lost their crops.
“And all my suggestion to the people is please hang in there – we know we’ve had a catastrophic failure in terms of our crop, our devastation in terms of crop but come 2017 we want to be back-up there, even better than where we were in the past. So that is the message that I have said to the farmers but those farmers that have already got crop – I am assuring them that their crop once it’s harvested and transported – we will definitely process that cane.”
Khan says a full report on the Penang Mill by Wednesday will give them a better idea of damage and repair costs.
