Internet banking safe: Westpac

Internet banking is safe maintains Westpac Banking Corporation general manager Adrian Hughes.

Hughes says customers need to protect themselves from scam mails.

He says many customers are easily fooled by fraudsters working from outside of Fiji and come running to them when their accounts are compromised.

“Particularly in regards to emails… be very very careful about any emails purporting to be from bank or any bank in fact. Banks generally will not write to you asking for your passwords and customer numbers and that is the modus-operandi – that’s like a lot of these overseas scammers seem to be using.”

There’ve been many reports of people losing thousands of dollars over night with no trace, where the money has gone to.

Hughes says they are working with the Consumer Council of Fiji and educating the people.
