Work on Suva’s former icon – the Grand Pacific Hotel is progressing well.
The seventy eight million upgrade project is expected to be completed next year.
GPH was built in the colonial days and was home to royal dignitaries and the social elite.
Shareholder Fiji National Provident Fund says they are restoring all structural façade internally and externally to its original condition.
Project Developer Rod Bradley says they are bound by restrictions of the Heritage Trust.
“It’s a quite a difficult process again – we got to scrabble back all the concrete stuff, replace any re-enforcement and then we got a product out of New Zealand which is significantly used around the world to restore historic buildings.”
Fifty percent of the structural work is complete.
