There has been increase in the number of overseas weddings held in local resorts and hotels over the years.

Fiji Tourism Association president Dixon Seeto says this is becoming a very important segment of the tourism industry.

“This is a growing segment and the attractiveness of this is that with each wedding it attracts a large number of friends and families, who come along and celebrate this auspicious occasion with the happy couple.”

Outrigger on the lagoon resort general manager Peter Hopgood, told FBC News that it has been a phenomenal growth.

“When I arrived here three years ago, we did forty weddings, than we doubled it to eight weddings and last year we did 230 and this year we did over 240 weddings.”

Hopgood says outrigger on the lagoon only conducts one wedding per day as they are conscious of the fact that the day is the most special day for the bride and bridegroom and the day belongs to them alone.
