The Fiji Corrections Service is using this year’s Hibiscus event to promote the talents which the inmates have.

This is in an effort to help the prisoners to become self sufficient, relying less on state funds.

Yellow Ribbon Coordinator Jale Vosadrau says the products made by the prisoners are on sale at the FCS booth at Albert Park in Suva.

“We have already done eighty percent of the work, once the inmate is serving in the custody now the public is to contribute in another twenty percent. Once the inmate is released we would like to see the support from the members of the community on what they can do or offer to assist us in successful re-integration.”

Sixty percent of the total proceeds will be given to the inmates while the other forty percent will be used by the corrections service.
