Specialists file complaint to Consumer Council

The Consumer Council of Fiji has received a written complaint from thirteen specialists at the Suva Private Hospital protesting on the paid advertisement by SPH claiming services are normal.
The letter signed by the specialists comprising of surgeons, gynaecologists, anaesthetists and obstetricians and are currently withholding their services to SPH.
Council Chief Executive Premila Kumar says the letter states that the specialists are only available for patient emergencies.
She adds the letters states that discussions within the Management of SPH are not fruitful they could possibly sever ties with SPH.
The dispute with SPH relates to paying of facilities fees ranging from 20 percent to 30 percent.
SPH claims that the specialists are operating as individual independent contractors using the SPH administrative system and facilities to see their own patients.
SPH is yet to comment.
