The Pacific Centre for Peace building for the first time hosted a three day Pacific Peace Conference in Suva yesterday.

The conference themed “Strengthening the role of Peace in Nation Building” aims to improve peace building work locally and in the region

Pacific Centre Peace building Director-Florence Swamy says the conference will provide space for Government ministries, Non-government Organisations, faith based organization and civil societies to dialogue on and increase their knowledge on peace building work.

“Define areas of synergy that we could work in together and also recognize the work and there’s been a lot of work done at community levels. So at some levels, what we also wanted the space to do for us was to bring together all of this work, to see where we’ve come to so far as peace building is concern.”

One of the participants, Archbishop Peter Loy Chong says Fiji should talk about practical ways of building peace.

The conference continues today.
