Fiji Labour Party mourns the death of former Ra Parliamentarian and Party stalwart Sanjeet Maharaj who passed away at his home in Ellington, Ra, this morning.

58-year-old Maharaj who was a cane farmer, served as President of the National Farmers Union for a number of years.

Sanjeet Maharaj first stood for parliamentary elections on a Labour ticket
in 1999 but lost narrowly. In 2001 he won the Ra Indian communal seat and was re-elected from the same seat in the 2006 general elections.

Labour Leader Mahendra Chaudhry says Maharaj would be sorely missed by the Party.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
