Police have recovered the body of a 16-year-old boy who went missing during a swimming trip in Namosi on Saturday.
While police are believed to be sending a statement out soon, FBC News has been reliably informed that the boy was a sports personality and was to represent Fiji to a sporting event in New Zealand next week.
Police have confirmed that a search party was looking for the boy since he went missing on Saturday.
Just this morning, villagers from Namuamua who were on their way to Navua saw the body floating near the Raiwaqa Community and informed members of the community there who then alerted police.
It’s believed he was out swimming with his family when he disappeared.
While a post morterm is expected, the boy is believed to be the first drowning case for 2017.
