It’s important to promote different languages in a multi-cultural country like Fiji as it helps establish deep connections and cross cultural friendships.
Health Minister Rosy Akbar made the comments while celebrating World Hindi Day at the Indian Cultural Centre in Suva last night.
“When our i-Taukei friends call out to us ‘kaise baini’ – it gives us that warmth and love and that’s just who we are and it connects us and develops that feeling of brotherhood and the fact that we’re all one. So not only should we promote our own language but it’s important we learn other languages that are around us so that we are able to understand each other better.”
Akbar is urging every Fijian to take the initiative to learn other cultures.
