The United States Embassy in Fiji today donated construction materials worth $127,000 to the Ministry of Agriculture.
Over five hundred and fourty thousand people were severely affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston and eleven months on, families are still rebuilding.
Minister, Inia Seruiratu, says the construction tools will improve the response effort in times of natural disasters.
“Debris created in a disaster causes significant challenges to relief and recovery operations and as a result hinders plans to a rapid return to normalcy. One of the lessons learnt post cyclone Winston and of course the most recent TD 04F was the urgent need to mobilize clearing and cleaning tools.”
The U.S Ambassador to Fiji also commended the relief effort of the Fijian Government.
Similar tools will be handed to the Commissioner’s Office in other divisions in the coming days.
