American Ambassador to Fiji Judith Cefkin says there is no set policy on climate change.
Ambassador Cefkin was responding to comments made by President elect Donald Trump who has being quoted in various media saying that climate change is a hoax , adding that he plans to cut funding for it from the United Nations.
“Well we do know there have been a number of comments expressed by President elect Trump, but he said also in more recent discussions that he is open to hearing views on this issue and he has’nt prejudged what his position will be when he takes office, so we continue on with our work as it’s currently planned, of course we will take on board any directions we get from the new administration when President Trump takes office.”
The incumbent 45th President of the United States has also threatened to pull out of the Conference of Parties agreement which came into effect last year, making it a legally binding agreement between more than 90 countries to curb their carbon emissions.
