The Fiji Sugar Corporation has shelved four key capital projects.
The projects include the co-generation and ethanol plant in Rarawai, a sugar refinery in Labasa and the syrup mill in Penang.
FSC Board Chair Vishnu Mohan confirms the proposed ventures need independent verification.
“We have put them on hold for now. The government is facilitating an independent review of the feasibility studies undertaken by FSC and we are actually re-assessing for transparency and viability of these projects.”
The proposed ventures are part of the industry’s diversification programme in preparation for the loss of preferential sugar prices in the European Union.
