Arya chooses High Court trial

The Registrar of the University of Fiji, Kamlesh Arya, has pleaded not guilty in the appeared in the Suva High Court this afternoon.
Arya is charged with one count of abuse of office and one count of general dishonesty causing a loss.
He opted to have his case heard in the High Court rather than the Magistrates Court.
The alleged offences took place between January and December, 2014, while the accused was the acting as School Manager for Bhawani Dayal Memorial Primary School.
It is alleged that between the dates, Arya authorised loans amounting to $116,500 from the Free Education Grant provided by the Ministry of Education to the primary school.
The case is adjourned to the 29th of next month.
