Work is currently underway for the Foreign Fisheries Agency and the University of the South Pacific to train and up skill fisheries compliance officers in all efforts to control and monitor every port of entry in most Pacific Island countries.
USPS’s Pacific TAFE Director Hasmukh Lal says this has been put into practise after a partnership deal with the USP and FFA in 2015
“A partnership whereby the same programme can be put through USP stringent quality assurance structure and be approved by USP and delivered by FFA so that’s the morality we have got so the programme is owned by USP but we utilize the expertise from FFA to deliver the courses throughout the region.”
Lal says the week-long workshop will also ensure that national and foreign vessels entering and leaving Fiji ports are safe.
