The Suva High Court Judge has ordered Vakaloloma and Associates lawyers, Aseri Vakaloloma and Nacanieli Bulisea to appear in court this morning.
During the trial of seven former employees of the then Public Works Department and a private company director, the court was made aware that their legal practicing licenses have not been renewed.
Vakaloloma is the counsel for four Accused persons in the trial.
Justice Thushara Rajasinghe says this is very serious concern and unworthy of an officer of the law.
Nacanieli Bulisea has been appearing on instruction from Aseri Vakaloloma since the trial commenced last Thursday.
The court noted that Vakaloloma himself has not been involved in the case since the beginning and wasn’t present when the case was called yesterday.
Justice Rajasinghe noted that Vakaloloma appeared at the Lautoka High Court today without a practicing license and had not informed the Judge of the same as well.
Senior counsel from the Legal Practitioner’s Unit Avneel Chand informed the Court this was a serious case of professional misconduct and there will be an investigation – which could lead to possible charges.
Chand also informed Court there is no application from Vakaloloma for renewal of practicing license as yet however, his colleague Nacanieli Bulisea lodged one yesterday at 11:30am.
The four Accused persons represented by Vakaloloma have been advised to seek legal advice and get new lawyers.
