Collective effort needed for sugar

The Sugar Ministry urging stakeholders to work collectively in ensuring that enough sugar is produced this season.

Permanent Secretary – Manasa Vaniqi says until this morning the four sugar mills has crushed 954 232 tonnes of cane and a total of 100 118 tonness of sugar was produced.

Vaniqi says sugar production has improved compared to the previous season however he says more effort is needed from stakeholders.

“People has been saying that this is a dying industry but workers and their support and the farmers and the industry including the government, working together has shown a remarkable achievement.”

33,200 tonnes of sugar were exported to the UK this month and the second shipment will be made next month.
