Two thousand one hundred and forty six cases of compensation are pending with the Ministry of Employment.
Minister responsible Jone Usamate has confirmed the pending compensation claims saying that three hundred and nineteen, relate to deaths at a work place while more than one thousand eight hundred are for injuries.
“The assessment are done only by those who have been trained and how to use the code so around the world there are special codes that are being developed on how you assess occupational injury and deaths and today in Fiji we have trained more than 200 doctors in these codes and how to apply these codes .The impact of that is that there will be consistency in assessments.”
Usamate adds that twenty labour officers have been recruited and trained, with more than two hundred doctors contracted to assist in these cases.
