It is the responsibility of any employer to report any injury or death which occurs at any workplace.
Minister for Employment Jone Usamate made the comments responding to a question in Parliament yesterday on the new amendments in the Workers Compensation Act.
_"Once these cases are being reported to the ministry the staff will have to go and investigate to determine what is being that cause of injury or the death and reports are given to the medical assessors to do the assessment and once these medical reports are received, claims are then calculated based on the percentage of the injury and these are then forwarded to the employers to effect pay."
Usamate says in an effort to support workers and families, labour officers now have the power to demand information from employers to allow cases to proceed.
