The Oceania Customs Organisation is looking at providing certain training and awareness programs with other island countries on illegal trade of drugs and illicit tobacco in the Pacific region.
Head Secretariat Seve Paeniu says the huge increase of these illegal activities in the region is a major concern as it has resulted in many organised crimes.
“We provide training on risk management, investigations and intelligence techniques and also looking at their legislation framework to be able to support the enforcement sides of things.’’
Paeniu says the region is used as a channel for transferring illegal drugs to its final destination.
