The first prosecution witness in the case of a 39-year-old unemployed man, charged in relation to the death of his younger brother, told the Suva High Court that the accused and the deceased argued over a bowl of dhal on the day of the alleged offense.
Aisake Vana Junior is charged with one count of manslaughter.
Salanieta Civolivoli who is the sister-in-law of both recalled the day of the offense saying she heard both of them arguing as the victim – Suliasi Verevere had eaten dhal which was prepared by Junior.
She said the argument got violent and they continued swearing and punching each other.
Civolivoli said she went out of the house and when she came back she saw Suliasi lying on the floor.
The witness said with the help of her father-in-law who was present in the house at that time, she took Suliasi to the hospital where he later died.
The alleged offense took place in Kalabu, Nasinu on April 5th, last year.
The matter continues in the Suva High Court as the Defense is currently cross-examining the witness.
