Britain pledges $4.4m support for COP23

The British government has announced it will provide four point four million dollars in support of Fiji’s COP23 Presidency.
British High Commissioner to Fiji, Melanie Hopkins, says the UK stands with Fiji and other Pacific Island countries in their commitment to address Climate change issues
Hopkins says they pledge to help Fiji achieve a successful outcome as the President of COP23.
“This is in addition to our contributions provided through the European Union. We hope that this, as well as our partnership and collaboration will enable us to do even more to drive a strong vision for COP23 and its critical objectives.”
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama thanked the British government for their continuous support.
The UK is the first country in the world to put an ambition to combat climate change into law in the form of the 2008 Climate Change Act.
