Fijian Prime Minister and the president of the Fiji Rugby Union has announced that Fiji will bid to host the Fijian leg of the World Rugby Sevens Series.
Voreqe Bainimarama, says Fiji will put out all stops to win the right to host such an event.
Bainimarama says when Fiji wins the bid, we will host the game as early as 2020.
“We are certainly ready to do so. We have shown we are much more then capable of hosting major international sporting events and Fiji belongs to be on the World Rugby HSBC circuit. We want World Rugby to see the passion of our people, the support of our country and the unique Fijian way. We have the facilities, we have the hotels, we have infrastructure, we have the air connection, we have the communications and in the next two years we are committed to make any infrastructure improvements that we need to make."
Bainimarama says Fiji has successfully hosted the Super Rugby matches and other International meets.
He urged all Fijians to show their support for Fiji and FRU’s bid.
The FRU president launched the website Fijifor7s.com last night to allow everyone to show their support in the coming months.
Bainimarama says we want to show World Rugby the depth of our national commitment, the passion of our people and our capacity to deliver.
He encouraged all Fijians to register at Fijifor7s.com and help FRU bring the HSBC tournament to Fiji.
He made this announcement during the Fiji Rugby Unions first anniversary of Olympic Gold Medal win in Rio, Brazil.
