Dengue fever claims six lives

The Health and Medical Services Ministry recorded over two thousand two hundred dengue fever cases for the first six months of this year of which six resulted in deaths.
Minister responsible, Rosy Akbar says dengue still remains a threat to our population.
“During the last six months of this year there were two thousand two hundred and seventeen laboratory confirmed cases of dengue fever in Fiji and tragically six deaths that were confirmed as attributed to this deadly disease. Fiji experiences mosquito borne diseases every year, there are persistent problem for our population or health sector.”
Akbar was speaking at the launch of innovation Xchange initiatives where
the Australian Minister announced that they will be investing more than twelve million dollars for a pilot program aimed to reduce mosquito borne diseases in the South Pacific island countries.
