FSC eyeing new sugar buyers

The Fiji Sugar Corporation has begun pre-selling our sugar.
This is part of branding to attract new sugar buyers because the EU preferential agreement comes to an end this month.
Permanent Secretary for Sugar, Yogesh Karan, they have already rolled out plans and there is no need to be concerned at this stage.
Karan says once the preferential agreement ends, it will be all about competition in the sugar market.
“So we are not looking at any pre-conditions and whoever gives us the best deal and price, will make sure we find a market then. Lots of work to be done but we need to brand our sugar. Unfortunately we haven’t been looking at adding value to our sugar, just simply by selling raw sugar since the establishment of this industry.”
Meanwhile FSC chief executive, Graham Clarke, says they continue to take enquiries from European customers but lower prices in the EU do not make this market very attractive.
