The Fiji Broadcasting Corporation news is the most preferred news channel in the country.
Chief Executive, Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says this is due to the content of the news.
Sayed-Khaiyum says currently FBC TV news, which airs at 7pm daily, is viewed by 44.8 percent of Fijians watching Television, while the 6pm news by competitor, Fiji TV has a 33.8 percent viewership.
“We started off by having our news at 6pm and then we came to a point we thought, you know what we can make it bigger and better we can do more things and we can become better than our competition and we were going to take the chance because we are so confident about our product to move our news to 7pm and within just over a year the 7pm news reigns supreme.”
Sayed-Khaiyum says that FBC news will continue to grow.
“We actually managed to change prime time viewing from the tradition six o’clock to seven o’clock because people want more local news. Majority of the people in the Fiji rely on TV to get news and also a significant portion of them rely on radio as well, both medium which we cover quite adequately.”
Since the inception of the 7pm news last August, FBC news has continued to strive for better.
