Police will now come down hard on those involved in the recent spate of home invasions, burglaries and robberies with the military backing them up.

Police Chief of Operations ACP Rusiate Tudravu says they’re still trying track down people involved in these crimes but everyone should keep an eye out for new faces and vehicles in their residential areas.

“We have managed to make a few arrest so far. There’s a small group that are currently doing this and we are on top of that. We are trying our best with the resources that we have and I can confirm that the arrest was made has somehow lowered the criminal elements in those areas that were complaining about the recent spate of robberies.”

Meanwhile, Military Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto says they are looking into assisting police if the need arises.

“We’re very much aware of the criminality that is happening nowadays. We have people on the ground also and we help the police, we share information on what we know and what we pick up on the ground but we’re always there if the police need assistance we will be on board very quickly.”

Police say a task force team has now been formed to increase their visibility and they will also try to provide a quick response to those victimised by home invasions, burglaries, and robberies.
