There’s no change to bus fares since the implementation of e-transport cards says Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
Sayed-Khaiyum says bus fares prior to the launch of e-ticketing will remain the same.
“Of course we have instances for example stage 1 fare, you are charged seventy cents but if you look at the LTA regulation, it actually says sixty-eight cents that was the fare. But of course with the cash system, you could not pay sixty-eight cents, because you don’t have one or two cents, you paid seventy cents, so it was rounded up to the next ten. So now instead of paying seventy cents because you paying e-ticketing, you paying sixty-eight cents, you save two cents.”
Sayed-Khaiyum says that this is the same case for people being charged $1.11.
He adds the way the regulations have been done in particular after the national budget is that the fares set by the LTA are the maximum fares and no one can be charged anything more than that.
The Acting Prime Minister reiterated that it’s entirely the companies’ decision if they want to reduce their fares but cannot go over the current fares.
