In a bid to keep the passion of arts alive, twelve artists from six villages in the Naitasiri district were given an opportunity to learn new techniques.
A three-day workshop was conducted by established and world renowned Artist Josaia McNamara which was funded by the Department of Heritage and Arts.
“The art workshop is an initiative based on the iTaukei cultural epistemology -which focuses on the production of iTaukei primary contemporary art practices here in the grass roots level.”
McNamara says the artists were given an introduction training on how to use canvas, water based paint, brushes, leaves and charcoal.
Deputy Director Heritage and Arts, Adi MereTui RatuNabuaBua, says they plan to hold similar workshops in the future.
An art exhibition called the “Volasiga Arts Collective” was held at the end of the workshop where the artists displayed their work along with poetries.
This Exhibition is a symbol for hope and progress Fiji can achieve by investment into arts and creativity.
