The decision of a secret ballot that was rejected by the Registrar of Trade Unions under the Employment Ministry is before the Arbitration Tribunal.

Fiji Public Service Association, General Secretary, Rajeshwar Singh told FBC News the Tribunal will fix a hearing date on the 20th of this month.

Singh claims their issue is simple and that they want the Registrar to supervise their ballot.

However, in an earlier statement, the Registrar had said the Unions have failed to meet the requirements under the Employment Relations Amendment 2015.

The rejection was on the basis that no negotiations had been undertaken between the Government and the Unions, as required under the Amended Act.

The decision by the Registrar was also based on documents provided by the Unions that showed they declined to meet with Government to begin the negotiation process.

However, Singh claims efforts were made by the Unions to meet and iron out issues.

The ballot was intended to be conducted by the Fiji Public Service Association, Fiji Teachers Union, Fijian Teachers Association and the Fiji Nursing Association.
