Fijians residing in Santa Rosa, California are reported as safe despite some suffering property damage as a giant wild fire rages near the town.
US Ambassador Judith Ceftkin says she hopes they are safe and have been in touch with family at home.
Ceftkin confirmed she has not yet received the confirmed number of Fijians affected.
“I understand that a number are taking shelter in a church and some have gone to stay with their relatives and i know that there are number of other shelters being provided in the area and i understand also that BMB which you know provides accommodation usually for visitors that they have announced they will provide free accommodation to those affected.”
The Fijian Embassy in Washington is monitoring the situation closely.
