People living within 1 kilometre of the Laucala Bay and Lami Town areas are advised that tsunami sirens will be switched on between 10am and 10:30am this morning.
A live test of tsunami sirens which is audible for exercise purposes only will be conducted by the National Disaster Management Office.
There will be no need for evacuation or alarm.
The tsunami sirens are located at the USP Lower Campus in Laucala Bay and on Nasevou Street in Lami Town.
Permanent Secretary for Rural and Maritime Development, Disaster Management, and Meteorological Services, Meleti Bainimarama, says the exercise is part of on-going work to improve tsunami early warning systems.
It’s also to increase knowledge and understanding of tsunami risks.
National Disaster Awareness Week also begins this Friday with theme titled as “Be Tsunami Ready.”
