The National Disaster Management Office today held live tests of the two Tsunami sirens located at USP’s lower campus and in Lami town on Nasevou Street.

Director, Anare Leweniqila, says the live tests were carried out over thirty minutes to ascertain the coverage of area that the sirens could be heard in.

“We are currently going to procure an additional five sirens which will be installed in the greater Suva city area, once that has been installed and tested and the awareness has been completed, then we will conduct the national drill.”

The estimated coverage area of the two sirens is about a kilometre in and around the area it’s in.

Meanwhile, Leweniqila says the five new additional sirens will cost $300, 000 which is being bought for Fiji by the New Zealand government.
