Retired teacher takes the stand in alleged rape trial

A retired school teacher took the stand in the Suva High court today in an alleged rape trial, involving a class four teacher of Nasinu.

The fifty-seven-year-old teacher when cross examined by the State Counsel, said in November, 2012 three students came to him in his classroom at around 10.30am, to tell him about the accused.

When testifying in court, the teacher said that one of the young girl’s told him that the accused asked her, sex related questions.

The State Counsel asked the witness to describe the facial appearances of the students, when they approached him.

He said they all looked worried.

The witness told the court that another girl said, that one day they were playing cram-board when the accused showed her his private parts.

He also said in court today that another student recalled when the accused told her to go with him to the cinema, at the time of the Zone Meet at the ANZ Stadium, in 2012.

The retired teacher told the court that after the discussions with the girls, he took them to the assistant Head-teacher.

Meanwhile, Defence Counsel Aman Singh questioned the witness whether he gave a statement to the police.

The witness agreed but did not remember, the date.

The accused is charged with four counts of rape and nine counts of sexual assault of students.

The trial continues in the Suva High Court.
