The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is advising people living in Lautoka that some services maybe be temporarily suspended due to the fire that damaged the old operating theatre at the Lautoka Hospital.

This includes the General Outpatient Department (GOPD), Special Outpatient Department (SOPD) and X-ray department.

The Ministry of Health & Medical Services is taking steps to ensure that essential services are maintained but is asking for the public to understand that there will be some disruptions.

Members of the public are requested to avoid visiting Lautoka Hospital for non-emergency cases and to use other local health clinics wherever possible.

Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum says they are working around the clock to ensure services are returned to normalcy.

“As a result of the fire in directly it has caused some disruptions because of the water damage and because the fire was put out in the top level the water has come down to the second level.”

Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary, Philip Davies, has thanked Lautoka Hospital management and staff for their actions in ensuring the safety of patients and also expressed appreciation for the support provided by other agencies and the local community.
