It’s important to appoint people who are best suited for a particular job rather than hiring someone in favour of their ethnicity or religion.
This was highlighted by Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, who was speaking at the anti-corruption workshop.
He says Fijians need to understand that appointing the right person will get the job done with more transparency.
“We need to appoint people for the fact that they are the best person for the job. If somebody gets a job because they know they shouldn’t have got the job but they’re getting it because of some favour – they will of course not do their best. They will say I can continue to do what I like because they will always keep me and that is what actually leads to corruption.”
Sayed-Khaiyum says corruption has been rampant in the private sector over the years and must be addressed in a tangible manner.
