The Agriculture Ministry is working on enhancing its Data Collection Methodology for the 2019 Agriculture Census.
A three-day workshop has been organized in Nadi, where stakeholders will collaborate and finalize the best way forward for future agricultural surveys.
Minister responsible, Inia Seruiratu, says the agriculture sector plays an important role towards the economy in terms of food security, employment, increasing foreign exchange earnings and contributing towards GDP.
“The current government recognizes the need for more consistent and quality data and has place highest priority towards the improvement of data collection and dissemination processes to address the urgent need of a regular flow of consistent agricultural information for planners, policy and decision makers.”
Seruiratu says the World Program for Census of Agriculture provides a guideline for Agriculture Census during 2016-2025.
He says this program proposes new approach to establish a system of integrated surveys and cost-effective ways of data collection.
