A former primary school teacher in Nasinu has been sentenced to fourteen years imprisonment for rape and sexual assault charges.
While sentencing the man, High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo says the long prison sentence is a warning to would-be rapists.
Temo says the 35-year-old’s former work colleagues described him as hardworking, a well-dressed man and a good role model.
However, he was secretly abusing female students in the classroom.
Justice Temo says that rape of children is a serious matter.
He adds the man has seriously breached a teacher’s trust with students.
Temo adds that ninety-nine percent of teachers do their best in school while other teachers like him do the unthinkable.
He reiterated that the former teacher should not complain if his liberty is taken away from him.
He was convicted of four counts of rape and nine counts of sexual assault of students.
He has been given a non-parole period of 13 years and 30 days to appeal.
