There is a need to have more skin specialists in Fiji.
This was highlighted by the UN Independent Expert on Albinism, Ikponwosa Ero after sharing the preliminary findings of her mission on albinism.
Ero says there is only one dermatologist dealing albinism at the Twomey Hospital in Tamavua, Suva.
“This is something the government is aware of and that’s why they support the upcoming training of more dermatologist next year, the Fiji National University will issue Diploma to people who are going to be trained next year.”
Ero says there is also a need to strengthen awareness of albinism and the need for government to launch a systematic collection of information on the subject.
