The Ministry of Youth and Sports has taken a proactive role in creating awareness among youths on sex-related crimes and the impact it leaves on individuals, families and communities.
This follows as recent statistics reveal 344 such crimes were committed between January and July, of which 264 were either rape or sexual assault cases.
Speaking to the youth at Davuilevu Primary School in Nausori, Minister, Laisenia Tuitubou, said they are concerned with the rise in sexual assault and suicide cases affecting young people.
Tuitubou says the Ministry will continue to advocate for youths involved in such cases in its efforts to curb the occurrence of such tragedies in our communities.
Around 41 youth were part of the empowerment training organised by the Ministry.
